Diaries record the daily activities of Mrs. Blanche Williams.

Mrs. Williams was the wife of 8th Judicial District circuit court judge A. Clay Williams of Pittsfield, Illinois. Her diaries reflect the home-front experiences of the Williams family during World War II, including their lawyer sons, David and Wayne, and their families. Although primarily an account of the daily activities of an upper-class family in a small Illinois town at mid-century, the diaries also offer glimpses of the family’s increasing awareness of the scope of the war and the changes that came with Wayne’s enlistment in 1943.
